Encaustic Monotype Weekend 1/25+26/20 Pyramid Atlantic

Encaustic monotype

Encaustic monotype combines the age old medium of encaustic (pigmented beeswax and resin) with the spontaneous process of monotype. To create prints, encaustic sticks are used to draw on a heated metal plate. The wax on the plate can then be manipulated with brushes, and other tools. The image is transferred to the paper by laying absorbent paper on the plate using the pressure of a hand-held baren. This two-session workshop will cover a range of tools and techniques for mark making and painterly surfaces and will include the use of stamps, masks and stencils, variations in type and absorbency of paper, presentation options, and safety in the encaustic studio.
