”Best of” Online Drawing – Still Life Examples

Lesson One – A single “Sketch Pad-sized Object” (binoculars, wine bottle, pair of shoes, crock pot, etc)  and draw it, literally, the size it is, on your white sketch paper with a 2B pencil, a 6B graphite stick, a pink pearl eraser and a smudge stick. (Lesson 1.3)

Lesson Two – Fresh Fruit – 4-5 apples and/or pears, or lemons and/or oranges, (or, in a pinch, eggs). Using black and white pastel pencils, black and white pastel chunks on grey Mi-Teintes pastel paper (half sheet). (Lesson 1.5)

Lesson Three – Glass and Metal Objects – Value studies of transparent glass objects and chrome or silver objects using white pastel pencil and chunks, pearl and kneaded eraser and pencil sharpener on black Mi-Teintes pastel paper (half sheet). (New Lesson)

Lesson Four – Still life with white, middle value and darker objects, (lit from one side) – man-made, symmetrical, or semi-symmetrical objects work best for this assignment. Use graphite materials (#2 pencil, layout pencil or ebony pencil, pink and grey erasers, and blending stumps, on white sketch paper). (Lesson 2.1)

Lesson Five – Drapery (two cloth napkins, or a white pillowcase or sheet would work) and oranges (but other fruit, vegetables, or eggs would work as well), (lit from one side). Use black charcoal or black pastel pencil and black pastel chunks on white sketch paper (5.3)

Lesson Six – Value studies of white objects on black surfaces, alongside black objects on a white surface using white pastel pencil and chunks, pearl and kneaded eraser and pencil sharpener on black Mi-Teintes pastel paper (half sheet). (New Lesson)
