This two day workshop will take place at the Gateway Art Center in Brentwood, MD. It will include the use of an individual hot box, a basic palette of encaustic wax, as well as a variety of tools and found materials useful for mark making in monotype. Instruction will include the use of stamps, masks and stencils, subtractive and additive mark making, and the variants of heat, paper, and encaustic wax in the monotype process.
The cost of the workshop is $300 plus a $60 materials fee for a selection of papers, encaustic paints, handmade graphite paint sticks, a selection of R and F paints and clear heat resistant Duralar to make stencils, as well as the use of all tools available in the studio).
Each student must purchase 12″x19″ sumi-e paper and two colors of encaustic paint (student’s choice).
The Encaustic Monotype Weekend Workshop will be limited to 6 participants. The hours will be 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. It will take place at KDK Studios at the Gateway Art Center at 3801 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood, MD.
