Online Drawing Five Still Life Examples

Lesson One  Larger than life – Single Sketchbook-sized White Object. This is easier if the subject matter is lit from one side. Use ebony pencil, and 2B pencil, pink pearl eraser on white sketch paper.

Lesson Two Still Life with Book, and/or Office Supplies (tape dispenser, stapler, hole punch, clip board, etc.) lit from one side, using ebony pencil, and 2B pencil, pink pearl eraser on white sketch paper.

Lesson Three Fruit or Veggies on Draped Fabric, using black pastel pencil and chunks of black pastel, pearl and kneaded eraser and pencil sharpener on white sketch paper.

Lesson Four Colorful Vegetables (squash, eggplant, etc) and/or Colorful Bottles and/or Colorful Bowls, using Alphacolor chalk pastels & chalk pastel pencils, pink pearl, and kneaded eraser and pencil sharpener on white sketch paper.

Lesson Five  The Inside and Outside of Two Identical Vegetables/Fruits (ideally something that is green, like a lime or an avocado (or a lemon you can pretend is a lime), a green apple, or a bunch of scallions/green onions, a green-ish pear, etc but that’s not required. This works best if you have one whole one and one sliced in half, or quarters) using black and white pastels, erasers pencil sharpener on light green pastel paper (half sheet).

Lesson Six Green and Red Still Life Objects (the color of, and the complement of, the color of the pastel paper).  Possible subject matter: a potted plant with/ or without, flowers (you can make them red) – or red peppers, green peppers, red onions, scallions, red pears, green pears, red apples, green apples, limes, etc., or pitchers and mugs (anything in the kitchen) that is red or green using Alphacolor color pastel chunks, pastel pencils, and a pencil sharpener, a pink pearl and kneaded eraser, on light green pastel paper (half sheet).
